The Square Enix Security Token, previously announced here on Topics, will be available for purchase via the PlayOnline Viewer on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009. The token greatly increases the security of PlayOnline accounts by requiring users log on using a constantly changing one-time password that is displayed on the token.



Also set to debut alongside the release of the Square Enix Security Token is the new "Square Enix Account" system. Square Enix Accounts will be compatible with FINAL FANTASY XI and PlayOnline, as well as other future online services. Users must first register a Square Enix Account, which is a free service, in order to make use of the security token.

it is a pretty fail way to make more money... paying for inventory space =|

it's bad enough that people pay for irl game inspired items to get an in-game one (im looking at you fail tele-necklace)

i see the benefit of the secure key, but its starting to look a little too commercial :(

now where is the "i didnt wanna pay irl $$$ for that sh!t" r/ex version of all those items???

You already pay for items for example the mini-expansions is the same thing. Expansions in general if you are on the PC this is a win win situation anyway you look at it.

I'm still gonna get the security dongle-thingamajig... can never be to careful.


I just find it unfair that they have to bundle the (upto) +80 inventory with the sale of the security gizmo to make sure it sells...
why not make it a reward off a really badass quest (not like gobbie bags), or make it the official "congratulations you win" item from the incomming Sandy-Moogle expansion.


oh well... time to camp POL to see when orders start and i dont miss out on my (upto) +80 inventory mog satchel.
